For this project, I lead the Immaculata-La Salle’s production of Howard Ashman’s “Little Shop of Horrors” as student director, taking the time to analyze the script and create original staging. I served as the creative lead and driving force of the production, working not only as stage director but also as the as the art coordinator and production manager, overseeing all visual elements such as costuming, makeup, and set design; I established teams for each department, providing them with designs to be brought to life. Additionally, I tackled the task of designing and crafting our fully functional “Audrey II” puppets to be used throughout the production.
This production was a fresh iteration of the classic musical, reimagining it to cater to our large Latino demographic. Through differing directional choices, I made the tale’s setting one that both the cast and audience could see themselves in—A majorly Latinx community in Miami, Florida. Through these directional choices, actors were able to imagine their characters as people they see in their everyday lives, adding a more personal element to the production that added onto the immersion I strove for.
