Stage Management * Media Design *
For one of my first college projects, I had the opportunity to collaborate on an independently produced staging of DNA by Dennis Kelly, directed and produced by JeriRose Kirsten. I tackled a handful of jobs for this production, including stage management, costume/makeup design, media design, general dramaturgy, and casting. While the process was fast-paced and demanding, it was deeply rewarding to take on multiple responsibilities and balance these roles throughout the production!
DNA deals with issues that we all know all too well—bullying, peer pressure, and groupthink—and puts them in the context of the deeply unsettling circumstance of a teenager who has been presumed dead due to these aforementioned issues. DNA, at its core, examines how fear and insecurity can push individuals to make questionable choices— It shows both the dangers of direct action and that of passive compliance.
